Recycling My RunDisney Costumes

So with Tink right around the corner, I have been thinking a lot about costumes. I know this is probably a huge no-no to many, but I'm thinking of simply recycling my Tink costumes from the last race. GASP--I know! Hear me out on this; I'm thinking it just makes sense.

First, I'm going to swap and wear running gear for the half and the costume for the 5k. Let's face it; I'm not really in great running shape so why bother with all that extra fluff. I'll support the Tink theme but be comfortable.

Second, that Wendy costume is super cute! I loved it, and I want to wear it one more time! It's a bit heavy, though, so the 5k is perfect.

Third, I'm a toddler mom, and I just don't have the time to put into an elaborate costume. Yes, I'm kind of wimping out here, but my home business is booming (so that means more time out of my day to work), my work outside the home is increasing, I'm in the last few weeks of my college course, and you know, life happens! I'm just trying to set realistic expectations for myself without having to live off a perma-coffee drip!

Finally, I'm really going into this trip to focus on a fun family vacation. I've said it before: you have to decide are you going to Disney to run or are you running on your Disney vacation. This time I'm definitely running on my Disney vacation. If it wasn't for the bling, I probably wouldn't have even registered for the race.

That's all folks! I'm doing it! I'm recycling my costume and will proudly wear it for the races...again! I'll have to spend some time focusing on September's costumes soon because I have no back-up for those races. Pixar theme here we come!

Costume Construction: An Introduction

Running at Disney and running in costume are almost synonymous!  I've worn some sort of costume for pretty much every Disney race, so I thought it would be fun to share some tips!  Enter a new series on Disney Runs in the Family: Costume Construction!

Disclaimer--I am NOT a seamstress in any way!  I don't even own a sewing machine.  All of my costumes are more crafty and I really try to keep it simple and cheap.  I stress cheap because you are going to be running and sweating in these costumes!  Often, at least a few pieces get thrown away right after the race.  Sometimes, I've even thrown pieces away on the course if they start to bother me.

Now, on the other hand, my mom DOES sew, so I've begged (more than) a few times for race costumes (often at the last minute), and she comes through with some great costumes!  She'll be contributing as well, so I guess you can decide which ones fit your ability (hmmmm...should I have asked her first?  I'm sure she'll share, right?).  Oh, and of course Chris and Katie have done some super cute couples costumes.  (This counts as asking them too, right?)

Stay tuned!  I'll be digging through the closet for my favorites.  Hope it inspires you to go all out for your next Disney (or non-Disney) race!

The Princess Costume Reveal!

This post could also be named "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" because not one thing I'm wearing is new for this race.  I guess that comes along with the territory when the past 45 days have you running a marathon, 4 halves, 2 10ks, and a 5k.  Also, the weather does not look kind, especially for the 5k, so I may end up moving things around at the last minute.  I might dress up as a runner, all bundled up for winter!

Frozen 5k Costume: Olaf, recycled from the 2014 Disneyland 10k

Enchanted 10k Costume: Just putting on some Disney stuff--a little Olaf, a little sparkle, and done! (This may end up under some warmer clothes for the 5k if the weather continues to look freezing cold)

Princess Half Marathon: Cinderella, recycled from the 2013 WDW Marathon
When I found out I was in corral C, C for Cindy, it just all made sense.

So there you go!  All of my costumes, ready for three great races.  I'm running solo this weekend, so please say hi if you see me on the course.  I like warm hugs and runDisney friends!
